Together with long-time collaborator, Yaniv Chen of Master Studio, Lemon has launched the Downing sofa – ‘a sofa that doesn’t take itself too seriously,’ says Lemon’s co-founder and head of design Kevin Frankental.

Constantly aiming to achieve a balance between decorative and useful, Chen and Frankental reminisced about the sofas of their youth, the soft shapes of the 80s and 90s, which have since been replaced with structured, minimal designs.

Navigating the challenge of producing something sophisticated but most importantly, comfortable, Chen and Frankental looked at what they liked personally. When it comes to the interiors we love, the common thread is comfort. Yaniv created a very structured frame for very loose 1980s-inspired cushions – a great combination,’ says Frankental.

‘We took the concept of a pillow and looked at how it could be pushed and overscaled to create a strong and slightly playful aesthetic,’ says Frankental

‘Together they created the Downing, a sofa that you actually want to sit on.’
