Paradise Now

We took a shine to this colourful new range of bespoke lighting by designer Roxanne Ferreira of Arrange Studio

Roxanne Ferreira, founder of interior design studio Arrange, channelled her passion for lighting to create high-quality lamp that would be timeless in its appeal. ‘I also wanted to design something with colour,’ she says, referring to the striking hues that were inspired by colours found in nature, in particular the plumage of the birds of paradise that inhabit Papua New Guinea and Australia. ‘I guess I have Sir David Attenborough to thank, having watched my fair share of wildlife documentaries during lockdown!’ she laughs.

The gentle curve of the shade, created from a flat sheet of aluminium, is coated in a gold tone and emits a warm glow when lit. Careful attention to detail is evident in all aspects of the design, down to the polished brass stem and the neat little nib that adorns the steel base and serves as the on/off switch. ‘I love the tactility of the switch,’ says Roxanne. ‘To me it turns the simple act of switching on the lamp into a comforting ritual that marks the winding down of a day or the beginning of a new one.’

The Paradise Lights are available in four eye-catching colour* combos:

Sunset (coral red base + flamingo pink top)
Sunrise (plum purple base + electric orange top)
Ocean (midnight blue base + indigo sky top)
Lagoon (emerald green base + pistachio green top)

*Custom colour combinations are available on request. All lamps are made to order (lead time is approximately four to six weeks).

The lights are available from Arrange Studio in Illovo, Johannesburg, and are soon to be on show at Always Welcome in Hyde Park Corner.
